Margin Inhale Review

The compass roses drank her footsteps.

Eris had crossed three review angles before she understood the floor was counting—not distance, but inhalations filed on margin. Each rose petal brightened where her boot had paused, then dimmed when she moved, leaving a ledger of breaths the harbor could read without ever descending. The listening fork at her ribs kept its vector tone. Bearing seven held. Violet did not.

Condensation gathered ahead, not on stone but between the roses, as if review preferred the gaps.

MARGIN INHALE RECEIVED, it wrote, symposium hand unchanged. BEARING SEVEN / THROAT NAMED / DEBT CLOSED

A second line formed slower, clerk-patient:

HARBOR WEIGHS INHALE AGAINST MANUFACTORY INDEX / DISCREPANCY: NONE / ADMISSION CONTINUES ON CONDITION

Eris stopped. "Condition."

The vault answered with geometry. Lines of brine rose from the nearest rose's hub—not walls, not bars, but angle constraints: she could proceed only along bearings the review geometry had already ratified. Deviation would file as appetite, and appetite on margin was fraud.

She had named her inhale public because the throat demanded witness. Now witness had teeth.

"Mirror Stratum on Salt Signal," she said. "Standing continues. Condition noted."

The condensation did not congratulate her. It indexed:

Eris exhaled once—measured, not performed—and watched the rose petals track it. The fork's filament stress did not waver. Somewhere above the salt, a harbor she could not see was already comparing her breath to expedition logs that had never expected a cartographer to proceed without violet honesty.

She capped her tide pack tighter and walked the ratified bearing deeper into the vault, where each inhale would have to be geometry until review released her—or until the margin closed.
